Elements To Consider When Selecting Wardrobe Doors

wardrobe doors

If you’re looking to update your bedroom, your wardrobe doors are a great place to start. Not only do built-ins provide exceptional storage, but they’re also often a major design element within the space due to generally taking up half of, or a whole, wall. Because of this, your wardrobe doors can have a significant impact on both the look and feel of your space. So, to help you design the bedroom of your dreams, today we’re looking at the elements you need to consider when selecting wardrobe doors:

Material

The first thing you need to consider when selecting wardrobe doors for your bedroom is the material that you would like them to be crafted from. This will impact all other decisions that you may make in regards to their design and as such should be sorted before you get your heart set on any particular elements. Plaster is a common choice as it is highly versatile, however, you may also select wood, glass or any alternative material depending on the interior design style that you’re looking to achieve.

Size

Next up you’ll need to consider the size that you want your new wardrobe doors to be. While three sections are often common for larger built-ins, some people opt to have two or even a single sliding option depending on how their built-in is configured and the loon they’re trying to achieve. We do tend to suggest opting to have at least two wardrobe doors if your built-in is large enough as this provides you with much more freedom in terms of your overall design, however, this is obviously entirely up to you.

Colour

The next thing you need to think about is the colour that you would like your wardrobe doors to be. Those designing within smaller spaces will most likely find that lighter tones are the best option for their room as this will allow the space to feel larger than it actually is. However, if you have a bit more room to play with, darker tones or complex patterns can really level up the design of your space. The colour (or colours) that you select should be designed to either compliment or contrast your floors and walls, depending on the style that you’re looking to achieve for your bedroom and other design elements such as scotia or any other borders within the space should also be considered.

Finish

Once you’ve selected your colour palette, it’s time to decide on the finish that you would like your wardrobe doors to have. By this we mean would you prefer them to present as being matte or having a gloss finish to them. Mirrored sections also fall under selecting a finish for your wardrobe doors and we strongly suggest adding a mirrored panel, especially in smaller spaces, as this will make the room feel more luxurious and grand, with the impact on this design element increasing as the size of the room decreases.

Fixtures

Finally, once all other elements of your wardrobe doors have been selected, it’s time to settle on which fixtures you would like to have within your design. This includes the colour and material of any rails or borders that may be present as well as your selection of handles if you decide to have them added. While some designs will allow you to forego the addition of handles, many find it more practical to include them (and they’re essentially required if you choose a swinging option over a sliding one) so it’s a good idea to think about your preferences and be prepared to add any fixtures that you may require.

So there you have it – everything you need to consider when selecting wardrobe doors.
